Using this website
The pages here describe a service and set out general information about heat loss, insulation and damp in South West buildings. They are not advice about your specific property. Nothing on the site forms a contract until a booking is agreed in writing.
Prices are quoted per job once we know the address and what needs looking at. Any figure discussed before the address is known is an estimate, not a quotation.
What a thermal survey covers, and what it does not
A thermal survey records surface temperature at the areas that can be seen from the air on the day of the flight, in the conditions on that day. It does not measure heat loss directly, it does not detect water directly, and it does not see through a roof, a wall or a floor. It shows a temperature pattern at the surface, which the report interprets in the light of what is known about the building.
The report describes what was seen and what it suggests, with a confidence note attached to each finding. It is not an energy performance assessment, an EPC, a structural survey, a damp survey carried out with a moisture meter, or a specification for repair. Where a finding needs a physical check to confirm, the report says so.
Weather, timing and rescheduling
A thermal reading depends on a genuine temperature difference existing at the surface on the day of the flight. Where recent weather, sun exposure or the heating pattern in the building would not produce a usable reading, the flight is rescheduled rather than flown for the sake of the booking, at no extra cost.
This means a thermal survey booking may be timed for early morning, late evening or a specific weather window rather than a standard daytime slot. That timing is agreed with you before the visit, not imposed on the day.
Access and safety
Flights are carried out under the Civil Aviation Authority rules that apply to the operation, and to the operator's own risk assessment for the site. If conditions on the day make a safe flight impossible, the visit is rescheduled at no cost.
Wind, rain, poor light and airspace restrictions all stop flights. Rescheduling for weather is normal and is not treated as a cancellation.
Booking, payment and cancellation
A survey is booked for an agreed date and a fixed price for the work described. If what is found on arrival is materially different from what was described, the price is re-agreed before any work is carried out.
Cancelling with reasonable notice costs nothing. A wasted visit, where access is not available or the property is not as described, may be charged.
